Mock Explainer Video

Challenge

Working in tandem with a Media Production student during my second year in the Creative Communications program, I was tasked with writing a one-minute explainer video for a hypothetical client of choice. I decided on Discogs: an app for music collectors with in-app features that lend themselves impressively well to visual mediums.

Role

I oversaw the concept, the script, the voiceover and… acting. My colleague Abby Wall took care of the directing, filming, and editing, and she did a very fine job of it. I chose to follow a music collector’s trip to the record store, since that is where the app is most effective.

Result

The video matched the tone of the brand: helpful and not too serious. We were able to showcase the app’s main features in a simple and effective way by pairing screen recordings with the footage we captured in-store. I was thorough in my execution: I wore a shirt from a renowned New York City jazz club, the first record in the video is really in my collection, and the second record really doesn’t name the drummer on the back, which is unusual for jazz albums of the time.
